Interesting read, while Poway school district (including superintendant John Colinns) support the idea of the 1:world program, but other top notch private schools in the country are shying away from this hype.

I'm sure there are other link to say there is benefits. But no one can argue that we do NOT yet have a unified view or enough data to say that this would be a benefits for young kids, especially at elementary school level.

Jason Fox,

Here is a link to an article where the teachers are actually complaining to the parents that the use if iPads at home is too much and is affecting the kids school work. The teachers are actually telling the parents to turn off the wiFi and limit the iPad time to help their kids.

http://www.telegraph.co.uk/education/educationnews/10767878/Infants-unable-to-use-toy-building-blocks-due-to-iPad-addiction.html

Quoting from the link:

Addressing the ATL annual conference in Manchester, Colin Kinney, a teacher from Northern Ireland, said colleagues “talk of pupils who come into their classrooms after spending most of the previous night playing computer games and whose attention span is so limited that they may as well not be there”.

and

Addressing members, he said the “brilliant computer skills” shown by many pupils was “outweighed by their deteriorating skills in pen and paper exams because they rely on instant support of the computer and are often unable to apply what they should have learned from their textbooks”.

This last comment makes me worry about the dependency on google rather than actually learning the material in the first place. This comment reinforces my thought that kids will get lazy and not memorize facts, but just say "I can google that if I need it."
